Most Bass can reach speeds of 12 miles per hour, Salmon at 14 mph and at the top of the list for speed is the Swordfish at 60 mph.

Some fish species use a form of jet propulsion, the Halibut and Flounder use a blast from their lower gill flap to get a jump start. Other species (approximately 90% of all fish) reach high speeds by allowing water to flow through the gills creating a barrier to turbulence, this is called Laminar Flow.

On slow days changing a lures sizes is sometimes more productive then changing the color.
Fact: fish do see color some much better then others.
When fishing deep waters over 60' white will always be your best bet.
In fresh water Largemouth Bass are rated tops for color definition followed by Smallmouth Bass, Musky and Pike.

Most fish have a highly developed and complex olfactory sense that requires more than half of a fishes brain.

Fish can detect chemicals in water so diluted that scientific instruments can barely measure them. Sockeye Salmon at one part per million and the King Salmon at one part per 80 billion, translated this equates to an incredible two hundredths of a drop in 23,000 gallons of water.

Salmon return directly to their hatching grounds sometimes thousands of miles away by using their sense of smell.

Not only can fish detect others of their own species by smell they can also identify individuals in a school.
